Registration and Access
Step 1: Ensure that your computer is ready to take the course
The course registration system is only compatible with Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer web browsers. We recommend Mozilla Firefox. Download Mozilla Firefox, Adobe Reader, and Adobe Flash Player (8.0 or higher) if you do not already have them on your computer. This software is free.
You will also need to disable your pop-up blocker and make sure your audio is working on your computer.
To test if your computer is ready, see Is My Computer Ready to Take the Course?
Step 2: Ensure you have Initial Food Manager Certification
The Serve It Up Safely™ Online Course is for renewing your Food Manager Certification. It does not cover initial certification. If you are a certified food manager, visit the Minnesota Department of Health's Food Manager Certification website. You may also use it for employee training without them needing Food Manager Certification.
Step 3: Register
You will register through the College of Continuing Education online registration system.
REGISTRANTS MUST USE A UNIQUE EMAIL ADDRESS AND MAY ONLY REGISTER ONE PERSON USING THAT EMAIL. If you are registering for someone else, you will need his/her unique email address and will need to choose a unique password for him/her (and remember to pass on the username/password to him/her).
Follow the instructions and provide the required information. This registration system will:
- Guide you to "create a new guest account" to use for the course. (If you have a UMN x500 Internet ID/password, you will be able to skip this step.)
- Collect basic information about you, needed by the course instructor.
- Collect your registration fee of $75 for the full course or $25 for a la carte course modules. (Required as a credit card payment.)
- Give you the link to access the online course after the above steps have been completed. (See below for follow-up steps.)
Need more guidance in registering? See screen captures (627 K PDF) of each registration step.
Step 4: Access the Course
After you register, you will receive a link to access the online course.
You can access the online course at any time and complete it at your leisure within the 90 day allotment.
You may wish to save the direct course link in your internet browser favorites. Alternatively, you can go to your MyU page, log in with your Internet ID/password, and click on your “Key Links” tab and then on "Moodle Home". This course, in addition to any other UMN online course you have signed up for, will be listed on this web page. (Please note, there may be up to a 12 hour delay from when you register and when the course appears on your MyU course page. You should be able to access the online course immediately however by clicking the direct course link.)
