4-H livestock show ring attire

NEW in 2017 - Minnesota 4-H show shirts

During the Minnesota State Fair, all 4-H livestock show exhibitors will wear an official 4-H show shirt in the show ring. This includes the conformation class and all showmanship classes.

4-H will provide one official show shirt to each livestock exhibitor, thanks to a generous sponsorship from Compeer Financial.

Rule

Official 4-H show shirts are mandatory. Not wearing the official 4-H show shirt will result in a lowered ribbon placings by one ribbon.  Not wearing the official 4-H show shirt will also result in ineligibility for championship drives or other extras including, but not limited to, Purple Ribbon Auction, Poultry Prince and Princess or Dairy Showcase.

How to get your shirt

4-H will order T-shirts based on the size information provided on state fair registration Form 1. Lead chaperones may pick up shirts in front of the 4-H Livestock Office (Cattle Barn) on Wednesday Aug. 23, 12-8 p.m. or on Thursday Aug. 24, 8 a.m.-12 noon.

Exhibitors may buy additional shirts in the 4-H livestock office for $5 each. Sizes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Proceeds will support Minnesota 4-H animal science and agriculture programs at the Minnesota State Fair.

Exceptions

Official 4-H show shirts are not required to be worn during extra activities such as the Purple Ribbon Auction, Dairy Showcase, Poultry Prince and Princess, Lamb Lead or the Lama Costume Competition.

Rationale

Show shirts are common in 4-H and other youth livestock shows across the Midwest. They provide consistency in appearance and are a clearly indicate the program that exhibitors represent.

Youth who raise and show livestock in 4-H build skills to lead for a lifetime. Patience, determination, confidence and hard work are key to the 4-H livestock experience. We want fairgoers to see clearly that 4-H'ers in competition are proudly 4-H. Wearing official show shirts will help us to be more recognizable and accessible to youth and families who are interested in beginning their own 4-H livestock experiences.
