State fair 4-H food service

Healthy and delicious meals are provided daily and we are able to accommodate most allergy issues. For questions, contact the food service coordinator at dedehard@gmail.com or after Aug. 4 at 1-651-642-2357.

The 4-H cafeteria is on the second floor of the 4-H building. It opens for lunch the Wednesday before the fair starts and closes immediately after lunch on Labor Day. Fair participants and chaperones must use the center serving line. Please clean up your eating area and bus trays to the tray return when you are finished eating.

Those wishing to eat in the 4-H cafeteria or eat "barn meals" must present a 4-H meal ticket. Meal tickets may be purchased in the 4-H superintendent's office during the Minnesota State Fair. During 4-H livestock encampment, meal tickets may also be purchased in the livestock office (located at the east entrance of the cattle barn).

Barn meals

Barn meals are available only during 4-H livestock encampment and will be served near the south side of the swine barn on the following days:

  • Wednesday - lunch & supper
  • Thursday - breakfast, lunch, & supper
  • Friday - breakfast, lunch, & supper
  • Saturday - breakfast, lunch, & supper
  • Sunday - breakfast & lunch

Serving times during general encampment:

  • Breakfast: 7 - 8 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Supper: 4:30 - 6 p.m.

Judging contest meals

  • General livestock: All participating 4-H'ers are required to pre-purchase 4-H 2 Livestock Encampment meal tickets.
  • Dairy judging: All participating 4-H'ers are required to pre-purchase a livestock encampment meal ticket.
  • Rabbit Judging Participants are NOT required to purchase a meal.

Serving times during Llivestock Encampment:

  • Breakfast: 7 - 8:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 12 - 1:30 p.m.
  • Supper: 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Attention General Livestock Judging team members

General Livestock: All participating 4-H'ers are required to pre-purchase two 4-H Livestock Encampment Meal Tickets. General Livestock team members can stay in the 4-H Dorm Tuesday night, August 22; 4-H'ers staying in 4-H Building on Tuesday night must purchase a 4-H Livestock Encampment Meal ticket for breakfast. 

Lama encampment meals

Food service for 4-H Lama Exhibitors will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30. The last lama meal offered will be 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 1.

All meals are available to be served in the lama barn or the 4-H Building Cafeteria. 4-H'ers choosing to eat 4-H meals will need to designate on Form 1 which meals they would like to purchase and where they will be eating those meals (Lama Barn or 4-H Building Cafeteria) since only the meals purchased for the barn will be delivered there. Meals offered include supper on Wednesday, all three meals on Thursday and breakfast and lunch on Friday. There is no Wednesday breakfast or lunch or Friday supper options. Meal tickets are needed. Please pre-purchase Lama Encampment Meal Tickets through your county as part of the State Fair registration process so that we can ensure an accurate meal count.

KP duty - Kitchen Duty (all general projects encampments)

Counties are required to provide 4-H'ers for KP. This volunteer work is vital for keeping cafeteria costs low for all participants. It also makes for faster and more efficient service. Please see the encampment KP schedules below for the meal your county is scheduled to work.  Please instruct your volunteers to report to the cafeteria at the assigned times to receive their assignments and eat with the staff.
