Paint Horse Essay Contest

The University of Minnesota 4-H Youth Development Program along with Crowe’s Nest Quarter Horses announces the annual "Win A Paint" competition, open to all Minnesota 4-H members actively involved in the 4-H project.

Crowe’s Nest is a small breeding operation that focuses on producing halter horses with great disposition and sound minds that ride. The Ranch has produced multiple grand and reserve champions and Register of Merit halter horses.

The mare is ROM and the sire is a halter champion producing overo. The stallion service was generously donated by Jeff and Sheryl Pullin of J Bar S Ranch, Luck, Wisc.

Contest rules

What would owning a paint horse mean to you? Submit a typed essay of one page maximum answering this question. Include how you would provide care, the environment in which the horse would be raised, and any other relevant information you wish to share. Send your entry to Cathy or Jordon Giefer, Contest Coordinators between January 1 and September 2, 2014. Include a completed Consent and Release of Liability form. Incomplete entries will not be reviewed.

Entries will be blind-reviewed by a review committee, comprised of personnel from the donor and the Contest Coordinator will select five finalists. The finalists will be interviewed by phone in September. The five finalists will attend the "Win a Paint Horse" event at the 2014 Minnesota State Horse Show where they will each have a personal interview, after this the winner will be announced. The winner will take home the horse!

It is the expectation of the Contest Coordinator and the donor that the winner agrees to bring the properly cared for horse to the 2015 State 4-H Horse Show for exhibit and related special events. Previous winners are ineligible. The horse must be gelded in accordance with to the Minnesota 4-H Rulebook.
