4-H horse project

The 4-H horse project promotes valuable life skills through safe and educational experiences. Youth members are involved in a variety of events, contests and activities. Your horse(s) can be leased or owned, but you can still participate even if you don't have a horse!

Participate in

  • Contests and events to show and ride your horse
  • Quiz bowls and judging teams
  • The study of horse science
  • Roping, goat tying and cattle sorting
  • Training an untrained horse through a five-step process

Program outcomes

  • Instill ethics, sportsmanship and responsibility in youth
  • Develop public speaking and leadership skills
  • Learn about western heritage
  • Expand 4-H membership
