Scroll down or click for registration forms

Minnesota 4-H State Arts-In is an 8-day intensive arts experience. Youth prepare a musical play to perform during the Minnesota State Fair. Youth gain experiences in performing arts, including singing, dancing, acting, instrumental accompaniment, costume design, set construction and technical work. Each year, State Arts-In youth perform at least 40 shows to 12,000 audience members in the 4-H Building on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Participants continue to work on goals while putting on several daily performances, and play leadership roles for 4-H members and act as representatives for 4-H Building visitors.

Who can participate?

Youth who have completed ninth grade up to one year past high school graduation, who have performing, instrumental, costuming, or technical theater interest and expertise. All State Arts-In participants must be available and agree to participate the full week of the State Arts-In event.

State Arts-In assistant directors are college-aged youth who have previously participated in State Arts-In.

What will I do?

This is an opportunity for youth with an interest in the arts to:

State Arts-In show development

Eight days of an intensive arts experience, combining leadership skills development, team building, and lots of hard work. This week serves as training grounds for the State Arts-In production, which takes place during the state fair. All participants are expected to stay at the 4-H Building for the entire week.

4-H State Arts-In state fair event

The 4-H State Arts-In state fair event begins two days before the start of the state fair and concludes on the last day of the fair. Participants will continue to work on goals, while putting on several State Arts-In productions daily at the state fair. State Arts-In participants play a key role in the experience of other 4-H members and 4-H Building patrons attending the fair. All participants are expected stay on campus and be present for the duration of the fair, with the exception of preapproved, school-related absences.

State Arts-In assistant directors

Directors serve in the leadership role during the State Arts-In event and during the state fair. Directors are expected to attend all group sessions, plan activities, train on their major-focused area, and serve as leaders to State Arts-In participants and 4-H state fair participants in general.

How much does it cost?

2016 participant cost will be $500. (Scholarships are available on an as-needed basis.)
