Appearance: |
Body length is 2 inches with
a 3 1/2 inch wingspan. There
are 3 brown spots on each wing. Males also have 10 white
spots on their wings. Because of these spots, this species
is sometimes called the tenspot skimmer.

| Where/When: |
Associated with ponds, lakes and
slow streams. Commonly found perching on twigs and plants. Active
from May through September. |
| Significance: |
A generalist predator that feeds
on a wide variety of flying insects. It is harmless to people. |
