Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle, Harmonia axyridis

Appearance:
This beetle is 1/3 inch long with 19 spots on its wing covers.   The number of spots are variable and can occur in any multiple of two up to 18 as well as lack spots all together.   The wing covers vary in color from red to yellow to orange.
Where/When:
Found in many types of environments, including arboreal (trees), agricultural fields, and gardens.   Active from spring into fall.
Significance:
An important natural control agent. It feeds primarily on aphids as well as scale crawlers, and other small, soft-bodied insects.
