Appearance: Most species are 1/8 - 1 1/4inches long. They are usually dark colored although a few are brightly colored.
Where/When: Most species are found on the ground in many different habitats. Some are arboreal (prefer trees).   Active from spring into fall.
Significance: Most species are predaceous on other insects.
