Firefly Appearance:

Most species are between 3/8 - 1/2 inch long and are bioluminescent (they can produce light).

Where/When: Are associated with wetlands or other damp habitats.   Active spring and summer.
Significance: Larvae are predaceous on slugs, snails, earthworms and soft-bodied insects.
