Soldier Beetle
Appearance:
This beetle is 5/8 inch long.   There is a black oval spot on each wing cover.
Where/When:
Commonly found on flowers, especially goldenrod. Active from July to September.
Significance:
Soldier beetles are general predators, feeding on a wide variety of small insects. They also eat pollen.
