Madelia Elementary School Greenhouse Project

To provide fresh produce that was planted, cared for and harvested by students. The purpose is to move students with the want to and knowhow to grow food while also providing them with clean eating opportunities at school. The goal is to move in the direction of year-round harvesting for school use and student learning. Students will be provided the opportunity to eat "real" food and they will gain the lifelong skills of planting, harvesting and eating food that they grow. The lessons that students could take away with them could have a large ripple effect.

Planned activities include:

Success will be measured by student/family before, during, and after questionnaires; food service before and after inventories of produce use and resources; evidence of community involvement; and ultimately if produce is grown, harvested, and eaten by students.
