MN River Watershed Reorganization
"MN River Congress" organizers believe there is a need for greater unity and communication among the many groups working to sustain the water and land in the Minnesota River Valley for agriculture and the overall economy. They hosted a kickoff meeting in New Ulm in June 2014. SERP continues to explore ways, along with SWRP, to support this coalition. SERP paid for travel for Water Resources Extension Educators to participate in a series of "Congress input" meetings across the watershed in 2014. A 2nd Congress was held in October 2014, described as follows -
- WHO: Everyone who cares about the future of a citizen led Minnesota River Improvement movement
- WHAT: A networking and group brainstorming meeting designed to develop a new platform for thinking and acting like a watershed where we can advance common goals shared by farmers, recreationalists, educators, conservationists and quality of life advocates.
- WHY: The ground has shifted in the Minnesota River Watershed. It is time to regroup, rethink and create new ways to work together.
A 3rd Congress will be held in New Ulm on April 16, 2015. More to come.
