Cascade River Design Project

To investigate and make recommendations for safety, tourist information, interpretive possibilities, and erosion issues at the mouth of the Cascade river

Northeast Regional Sustainable Development Partnership

Community partners:
Cook County, Minnesota department of Transportation, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, North Shore Scenic Drive Council, Local business owners, local hiking/trail associations.

The North Shore Scenic Drive Council worked with a design team and local committee to draft recommendations for the site. Meetings were held that included the local committee, key stakeholders, and the design team as well as others that were key sources of information for planning, historical information, and construction.

Final design drawing and a final report have been provided by consultant. The report includes an analysis of the site, a corridor plan which addresses two issues: improving traffic and pedestrian safety; and improving connectivity. The site plan also addresses the same two issues along with providing an interpretive strategy. The proposed design included a kiosk, cairn signage, trail marker and bike posts.
