Visitor Profile Surveys
To identify visitor characteristics that will provide information for communities to target tourism marketing efforts more effectively and efficiently.
The project included nine communities in three cluster areas within the Central and NW Regional Partnership areas. Each participating community had an identified citizen lead, with overall citizen leadership by the directors of the Fergus Falls Convention and Visitor Bureau (Central Region) and the Fargo-Moorhead CVB director (NW Region). The University Tourism Center led technical efforts.
- Visitor profile surveys were developed by the University Tourism Center in consultation with community business, travel and tourism representatives.
- Citizen project leaders in each community worked with University graduate student lead to identify times and location of sites for the intercept surveys. Locations included lodging and restaurant facilities, attractions and events.
- Seasonal snapshots of visitation and visitor characteristics were prepared by University project lead so that participating communities could begin planning marketing and promotion activities.
- A final report was prepared of visitor characteristics with suggestions of how this information could be used by communities to target tourism marketing efforts.
