Grey Mold of Tomato TOMATO               GRAY LEAF MOLD Gray mold is caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea. Gray mold occurs wherever tomatoes are grown.


Symptoms and Signs: Gray mold occurs on all aboveground parts of the plant. A key diagnostic feature is the presence of gray mold on the effected tissue.

General Information
Causal organism: Botrytis cinerea
Over wintering: As sclerotia in infected plant material
Months of infection: May through September
Method of dispersal: Infected seed, wind and rain
Infection point: Flowers, leaf tissue through stomates, lenticels and wounds on stems

Control Measures
Control: Provide adequate spacing to allow plants to dry between waterings.
Labeled fungicides Botrytis can be controlled by proper watering, mulching, and spacing of plants.
