TOMATO TOMATO               BACTERIAL SPOT Bacterial spot of tomato affects all aboveground parts of the plant.


Symptoms:  Spots begin as shiny, circular, water-soaked lesions. Lesions later become dark and necrotic, and may coalesce to form long dark streaks.

Causal organism: Xanthomonas campestris var. vesicatoria
Over wintering: Plant debris, seed and volunteers
Months of infection: May-August
Method of dispersal: Infected seed, wind-driven rain
Infection point: Infection occurs through stomates and wounds

Control Measures
Control: Plant with clean seeds and eliminate volunteer plants.
