| Where/When | They develop in any type of standing water. They are active especially in early morning and after dusk. It is common in shady areas and areas of dense vegetation. It is active from spring into fall. | |
| Significance | Primarily an annoyance due to their bites. They are potential vectors of St. Louis Encephalitis (usually several cases each year in southeast Minnesota) and West Nile Virus (not yet found in Minnesota as of April, 2002). | |
