Size 1 - 1½ inch long (adults)
Where/when Nymphs are active from early May to early July and adults are active from early June to September. Found in a wide variety of habitats feeding on grasses and broadleaf plants, especially composites and crucifers.
Significance Generally not a problem in most years. Chews leaves, pods, and other plant parts. Can defoliate plants when populations are high. Most likely a problem in late summer when other food sources are scarce. Prolonged dry springs over several years can significantly increase grasshopper numbers.
