Size: Up to ¼ - ½ inch long
When/Where: Found on plants in many types of environments, including gardens, landscape plants, and agricultural fields. Active from spring through summer.
Significance: An important natural control agent. Feeds primarily on aphids. May also feed on scale crawlers and other small, soft-bodied insects, insect eggs, and mites. Despite its dangerous appearance, it is harmless to people.
