spidey Insect Quiz

While in your backyard in late May, you take a look at your ash tree. You find that many of the leaves have whitish or yellowish pinprick-like discolorations on the top of them. Some of the leaves also have browned areas. You remember that a few years ago you also had a lot of leaves falling from your ash at about the same time of the year. You are concerned that the tree could be in trouble. When you take a closer look, you find a small yellowish brown insect that is moving quickly on the underside of some of the leaves.

  1. What kind of insect was seen on the ash?
  2. How seriously can it affect ash trees?
  3. Is this likely to cause leaves to fall?
  4. How can you treat the tree for this problem?
