Pennsylvania wood cockroach, Parcoblatta pennsylvanica

Katydid Appearance: Males are 1 inch long with long wings.   Females are similar but are about 1/2 inch long with short wings.
Where/When: Wooded areas in rotting logs and under loose bark.   Active in spring through early summer.

Significance:

Helps to recycle organic matter by feeding on decaying plant matter.   Occasionally an inadvertent invader in homes although it can not reproduce in buildings.
