Ash Problems

Question:

Our Ash tree seems to be losing its leaves and was slow to start budding/leafing this year. In looking at the fallen leaves it doesn't show any bugs but the leaves do have a few brown spots and are curled a bit. Any ideas?

Minnesota Master Gardeners say:

In springs that are cool and wet, anthracnose is a common problem with ash. The leaves will fall prematurely and have brown spots on them. Check this site to learn more: http://www.extension.umn.edu/projects/yardandgarden/diagnostics/ashanthracnose.html

Another common problem with ash is the ash plant bug. Check this site for more information on them: http://www.extension.umn.edu/yardandgarden/ygbriefs/e449plantbugs-ash-honeylocust.html

Luckily, ash anthracnose and the ash plant bug may be a problem aesthetically, but they do not affect the overall health of the tree and no spraying is necessary.

Ash yellows is another disease of ash and something to watch out for. In our community there are problems with ash yellows in the ash. Check this site to see more:
