Site: Lucy Lane ( Minneapolis )Lucy Craft Laney is the NCP latest site at a Minneapolis Public School serving Kindergarten through 8th Graders. The school community who recognizes students enter school with different cultures and experiences consequently strives to ensure that every child becomes a productive and successful member of society. One of the school's primary missions is to provide a safe and nurturing environment fostered by mutual respect. Students recognize their obligation to treat each other with respect and dignity. Parents and community members are an integral part of the school community and are involved in all aspects of the learning process. At Lucy Laney, ninety-five percent of the students are students of color, with the largest percentage being African American (60%). Ninety percent qualify for free or reduced lunch and twenty-nine percent ELL services. In partnering with Lucy Craft Laney Community Education, Minnesota 's New Communities Project will meet program goals and at the same time further the mission of the school. The collaboration endeavors to increase the quality and quantity of learning opportunities in the before and after-school programs through technical support. A wide variety of programs from leadership, literacy, technology, and service learning will be bolstered with researched-based methodologies |
