interests of its members.

What is MAEE?

MAEE is an organization for professional educators working county, regional, or state positions within University of Minnesota Extension. We were charterd and orgnanized in 1974 to be the voice of Minnesota Extension Professionals.

Eligible professionals may elect membership solely in MAEE, in one of the section associations, or both in MAEE and in a section. In Minnesota, we have sections that align with our professional expertise:

  • MAEAP - agriculture production),
  • MCNRA - community natural resources)
  • MEAFCS - family consumer sciences)
  • MAE4-HYDP - 4-H and youth development).

MAEE Accomplishments

• In 1995, MAEE obtained “market retention” legislative funding ear-marked to increase field faculty salaries. As a result, the base salary for each field faculty was raised by $1,000 on top of the increases for merit and the cost of living.

• In 2005, MAEE sought and received a change in Extension policy to increase the length of non-renewal notice from a maximum of six months to a minimum of 12 months for field faculty who have worked more than 10 years. This made Extension consistent with non-Extension P&A employees at the University.

• MAEE has investigated the pros and cons of unionizing. After a lengthy process of inclusive discussion, MAEE chose to not proceed with a petition to join a union.

• MAEE worked with administration and employees during the last two rounds of lay-offs to identify and describe employee benefits and options at termination.
