Yellow Nutsedge, Cyperus esculentus

  • Lawns and landscape beds
  • Perennial yellowish-green grass-like plant is common in moist areas but is occasionally found in drier conditions
  • Long, narrow, waxy appearing triangular shaped stems
  • Flowers are yellowish or brownish spikelets similar to those of grasses
  • Root system is fibrous
  • Underground stems known as rhizomes form off-white, marble sized tubers (nutlets) from which new plants grow each spring
