Characteristics:
- Perennial grass that spreads through stolons (above ground creeping stems)
- Lighter in color than Kentucky Bluegrass
- Leaves are yellow-green turning to reddish-brown during drought
- Leaf blades are flat, smooth and somewhat shiny/glossy in appearance with a boat-shaped tip
- Leaf edges (margins) are rough
- Flower heads are an open, pyramidal shape that blooms in June
Significance
- Creeping stems (stolons) spread into surrounding grass plants and can ultimately overtake those grasses under favorable conditions
- Improve drainage and grow lawn a little drier
- Very intolerant of dry conditions
