Henbit Syn. Dead nettle, Lamium amplexicaule L.

Found in:

  • Lawns and landscape beds
  • Thrives in cool moist soil

Characteristics:

  • Annual or biennial that grows 3–15” tall
  • Plants are aromatic (minty) when crushed
  • Stems are square, nearly hairless with an upturning tip
  • Leaves are rounded with a scalloped edge, arise opposite along stem
  • Pink to violet, tube-like flowers occur in early spring, sometimes in fall
  • Fibrous roots are shallow
  • Does not root from each stem node (joint) like creeping Charlie
