- Lawns and landscape beds
- Grows in shady, moist areas (drought tolerant when mature)
Characteristics:
- Low growing perennial that often grows in patches
- Grows best during cool temperatures (spring, fall)
- Heart-shaped leaves with rounded teeth on leaf margin (leaf edge)
- Dark violet, violet, blue or nearly white flowers bloom May through June
- Root system is fibrous along with short, thick, branching rhizomes (underground stems)
Significance:
- Will adapt to lower mowing heights by growing smaller leaves with shorter stems
