Carpenter ant queen
Size: 1/2 - 5/8 inch long.

Where/When: Typically found singly outdoors and indoors from April to June.

Significance: This newly mated queen is searching for a site to start a nest and is not part of an established colony. It is just a nuisance when you find one in or around your home.
