Velvet mites
Trombidiidae
Size: 1/16 to 1/8 inches long

Where/When: Found on the soil surface. Active during spring.
Significance: Adults prey on small arthropods and their eggs and larvae are parasitic on insects. They are harmless to people and gardens.
