Aster leafhopper
Size:1/8 inch long
Where/When:Feeds on a wide variety of plants, especially flowers (e.g. aster, chrysanthemum, coreopsis, cosmos, daisy, echinacea (coneflower), gladiolus, marigold, petunia, and phlox), vegetables (e.g. lettuce, celery, carrots, endice, and parsnip), and weeds (thistle, fleabane, wild lettuce, sow thistle, chicory, wild carrot, galinsoga, dandelion, plantain, cinquefoil). Found May through August.
Significance:Feeding generally causes minor or no damage on its own. However, aster leafhopper is a vector of aster yellows which discolors, deforms, and stunts plants.
