Gardening for a changing climate

St. Louis County

People gather around a Master Gardener information table

As our climate changes, gardening practices and the plants we select will also need to change. St. Louis County Master Gardeners are teaching their community how to create resilient landscapes that can adapt to our changing climate.

Nearly 200 participants attended the day-long conference, “Sustainable Gardening: Possible Impacts of Climate Change.” Master Gardeners presented relevant research-based information about climate trends in Northeast Minnesota and how these trends may impact crops and gardening in the future.

The conference included break-out sessions on pollinators, composting, improving habitat for monarch butterflies, and growing garden crops in a changing climate. A 60-page resource book includes the conference’s educational materials.
