According to the MDH, renewal training must cover at least one of the following topics: Food Sanitation and Safety, Emerging Trends in Food, Preparation and Handling, or Prevention of Food borne Illness. The CFM Renewal online course covers all of these topics PLUS a detailed review of Personal Hygiene. The MDH reports one of the most critical violations contributing to foodborne illness is improper hand washing. The CFM course presents an in depth, interactive exercise on proper hand washing technique.
Learners have the option to take 4 of 8 modules for 4 hours of credit.
At the end of each module a personalized certificate, stamped with your name and the date, can be printed without waiting for the mail or an instructor.
Some online courses are nothing more than 'books on the web.' Not true in this case! It's the intent that this course be taken on the computer.
The CFM Renewal online course was designed with multiple interactive lessons that move the learner through the course – without having to read screen after screen of text. The interactive screens do not print in a useful format. However, throughout the course, there are pdf files of additional materials that you can click on ("download pdf") and print.
Another course feature are video clips that include best practices, interviews with Food Safety experts, and testimonials from restaurant owners and others about their food safety experiences. Don’t have a computer that plays video? The course also lets you just listen or read the transcripts for each video movie.
The internet provides a wealth of information, but is it valid? Is it from responsible, reputable sources?
All of the website links in the course are from resources that University of Minnesota Faculty and MDH staff recommend and use in their own training.
Your registration is valid for 3 months after your initial login, giving you plenty of time to finish the course at your convenience.
