About the Food Safety Program

Canning demo at a farmers market

Extension educator Suzanne Driessen teaches canning techniques at a farmers market.

Our goal is safer eating for Minnesotans. We share current research-based information on hazards, regulations, and processing methods in commercial settings. We also offer safety guidelines and education in home food preservation and cooking for large groups.

According to the latest Centers for Disease Control statistics one out of six Americans will get sick from a foodborne illness every year. Almost all of these illnesses can be prevented by practicing safe food handling practices from farm to fork.

We are proud to offer reliable, relevant food safety educational programs that respond to an ever-changing food supply system.
