Educational Offerings for People who Receive Public Assistance

Are you a person who needs classes to continue to receive public assistance? Programs like the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), Divisionary Work Program (DWP), and Food Support often require its participants to meet a certain number of core hours for job/life skills activities.  The Extension Center for Family Development can help!

The following educational offerings count as core hours for job/life skills activities. All offerings provide you with a certificate, verifying those hours, upon completion.

Online

Dealing with Stress: A Web-based Educational Series

Learn how to identify and battle the stress in you life. The series is targeted for those who live/work in agriculture but it applies to anyone experiencing stress. Each of the 11 one-hour workshops will give tools for overcoming your stress. Complete one or do them all...it's your choice.

Family Mealtime Online Course

Learn about the benefits of eating meals together as a family and tips for getting started.

Renter 101 – Your Money – Your Housing – Your Time

Learn more about the rental process and obtaining and keeping a rental unit. Stable housing helps in keeping a stable job.

In-person

Simply Good Eating

Explore the large variety of nutrition education classes offered to Food Support-eligible clients. Learn to stretch food dollars, make healthy food choices, prepare quick and easy healthy meals, and become more physically active.

  • Cost: Free if you are Food Support-eligible
  • Core Hours Upon Completion: 1-6 depending on the class(es) attended
  • Contact us for classes being offered in your area or to partner with us to provide classes at your site
