Sensible Meals Lessons

Sensible Meals lessons provide options for eating healthy meals and controlling calorie intake. Activities include reviewing recommendations for healthy eating, learning if foods perceived as healthy really are, defining terms and exploring health claims on labels, and using simple methods to control portion sizes.

Objectives

By the end of this lesson, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe general principles of healthy eating.
  • Differentiate between foods perceived to be healthy and foods that actually are healthy.
  • Define commonly used health and nutrition claims on labels.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of portion control techniques, including the MyPlate Portion Indicators method.
