Healthy Life, Healthy You Boot Camp
Healthy Life, Healthy You Boot Camp is a nutrition education workshop for adults that emphasizes planning and preparing healthy meals on a budget.
Participants in this program will learn:
- The five basic food groups outlined in MyPlate.
- Safe use of knives when cooking.
- Basic cooking techniques by making a stir fry recipe.
- Basic food safety skills.
- Techniques for saving money on groceries.
Space and Time Requirements
This program consists of one 2-hour workshop held in a kitchen setting. The session can be adapted to meet the learning needs of participants, and within reason to fit the space and time needs of the partnering agency.
Healthy You, Healthy Life Boot Camp was developed by staff and educators with University of Minnesota Extension. Content is based on the USDA’s MyPlate food guide and other food preparation principles. The workshop also teaches the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound) technique in its goal-setting segment.
