Sharon Powell has been a statewide Family Resiliency Extension educator since February 2015. She serves the entire state of Minnesota from her home office in Minneapolis. Before her current position, Sharon was an Extension Family Resource Management educator for Carver and Scott Counties for more than two years. Sharon divides her time between programs that build financial skills of low-income individuals and families and programs that build parenting and relational skills of families at all income levels. Her work addresses needs at the individual, community, and policy levels through research, education, and outreach. Before joining Extension, Sharon was a lecturer in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota.
Sharon earned a master's degree in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, and a Ph.D. in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota.
