ST. PAUL, Minn. (5/18/2009) — University of Minnesota Extension Dean Bev Durgan presented Angie Marohl, Extension Nutrition Education Assistant (NEA), with the Dean’s Award for Distinguished NEA for 2009 on May 7 at the Dean’s Extension Staff Day in Baxter, Minn.
The award honors Marohl for her commitment to providing health and nutrition education directly to those who are most in need, exemplifying Extension’s mission to connect community needs with University resources. Schools and agencies that had worked with Marohl nominated her for the award for her compassion, understanding and commitment.
Renae Tostenson, principal for Appleton/Milan Elementary School wrote, “Angie makes use of incidental teaching moments throughout her lessons. When I told her our school would be trying to improve math scores this year, she volunteered to combine her lessons on increasing fruit, vegetable and whole grain intake with math skills. I appreciate her willingness to work with staff toward our common goal to help our students be healthy and successful learners.”
Marohl’s collaborative work with the Nutrition Education Program has addressed important issues that improve people’s lives in Minnesota.
