ST. PAUL, Minn. (7/14/2008) —University of Minnesota Extension is hosting a field day and plot tour on Tuesday, July 22, from 9-11 a.m. in Isanti, Minn.
John Lamb, University of Minnesota Extension soil fertility and management specialist, will begin the field day with a discussion on corn nitrogen rate research and the implications this research has for the sandy soils in the East Central region. Participants will also be able to view the research plots, which include nitrogen rates ranging from 0 to 210 pounds per acre.
Dan Kaiser, University of Minnesota Extension soil specialist, will discuss corn and soybean micronutrient management. Participants will be able to view the micronutrient research plots located in the field.
Jeff Coulter, University of Minnesota Extension corn specialist, will discuss the latest information on corn planting dates and residue management in corn.
Krishona Martinson, University of Minnesota Extension crops educator, will conclude the field day with a discussion of preliminary research results of a soybean rolling project that is being conducted around the state.
The field is located at 3120 261st Avenue NW in Isanti. Refreshments will be served starting at 8:30 a.m. and are sponsored by Federated Coop. There is no cost to attend the field day and no pre-registration is required. Plots in these fields are operated by Ryan Carpenter. Call Krishona Martinson at 888-241-0719 (toll free) with questions.
