ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/5/2007) — How will the beef industry react to rising corn prices and an abundance of ethanol byproducts? This issue will be the focus of the 2007 University of Minnesota Cattle Feeder Days, scheduled for Dec. 3-6 in five locations around the state.
Entitled “Impact of Ethanol Processing on Cattle Feeding,” Cattle Feeder Days will take place Dec. 3 in Luverne, Dec. 4 in Morris, Dec. 5 in Slayton and Dec. 6 in Lamberton and Rochester.
Rapid expansion in the ethanol industry over the last few years has significantly changed the dynamics of cattle feeding. As a result, corn prices have risen and ethanol byproducts have become a highly utilized feedstuff in feedlot rations. Feeding ethanol byproducts results in increased protein and sulfur feeding, and this may require new management strategies.
Registration for the program is $30 per person, and $15 per person for additional members from the same farm or family. Registration includes a meal and educational materials.
