Education for stormwater professionals and communities

The Stormwater Education Program promotes environmentally sound water resources management and policy implementation.

We develop and promote innovative stormwater best management practices among stormwater practitioners through locally tailored workshops known as Stormwater U.

These workshops focus on important stormwater issues facing Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) operators such as cities and watersheds. Stormwater U workshops are designed to help MS4's meet their stormwater permit minimum control measure requirements. Courses are designed and developed by a collaborative team that includes the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Met Council, local agencies, and the University of Minnesota. All courses include presentations, hands on learning, and peer discussions.

We also reach out to elected officials through NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials), a nationally recognized educational program for local elected and appointed decision makers that addresses the relationship between land use and natural resource protection.

Northland NEMO is a collaborative of organizations in Minnesota and Wisconsin with working groups currently in the Twin Cities Metro Area and the Western Lake Superior Basin. These partners offer educational programming, provide resources, and create effective tools to help communities make informed decisions about land use and natural resources. Learn more at the NEMO website.

Join our efforts to bring scientific solutions to challenges like sustaining biodiversity, meeting energy demands, and fostering effective land use decisions by donating to Extension's environment programs.
