What is Driven to Discover?

Driven to Discover: Enabling authentic inquiry through citizen science provides the training, curriculum and resources to help you engage middle school-age youth in citizen science projects and independent science investigations. Its development was funded by a National Science Foundation grant and was built around nationally-known citizen science programs.

Curriculum designed for school settings

This series is targeted to grades 6 through 8 and includes exercises to support scientific reasoning skills and disciplinary literacy. Assessment recommendations, science standards correlations and student page copy masters are provided.

Curriculum designed for youth programs, nature settings and museum settings

This series is targeted to youth ages 10 to 14, and includes exercises to support youth science identity, team learning environments, and youth reflection. Community involvement recommendations and youth workbook are provided.

Regardless of the topic or targeted setting, all Driven to Discover curricula use citizen science experiences to drive independent youth investigations. Adapt any of these to your specific situation or setting.
