About the program

Agroforestry includes educational programs aimed at rural landowners and managers. We demonstrate how trees and shrubs can improve environmental quality, productivity, and economic returns in agricultural areas. What is Agroforestry?

Programs cover topics including:

  • windbreaks for fields, farmsteads, and livestock
  • living snow fences
  • riparian vegetation management to protect streams and groundwater
  • short-rotation intensive culture of trees for fuel and fiber
  • managing wooded pastures for trees and livestock
  • growing and harvesting alternative products from woodlands
  • intercropping woody and agricultural crops
  • landscaping homes and farmsteads for energy conservation and a better living environment
  • utilizing trees and shrubs for wildlife habitat
