Aerospace

Why walk when you can fly? This project provides challenging activities on flying airplanes, launching rockets, and conquering space. Who knows? Through this project, you could even discover an interest in becoming an astronaut or pilot! Also learn about hot air balloons, remote control airplanes, gliders, and space shuttles.

Beef

Jump into the beef industry with this hands-on project.Learn how to select, feed, care for, and show a beef animal. Show animals must be identified by May 15 (steers by February 15). The 4-H member or an immediate family member must own all market animals. Heifer and cow/calf project animals may be owned

Bicycle

Biking is not only great exercise, it is a great 4-H project. Learn about bike maintenance and bike safety. Be introduced to biking clubs in your community and paths throughout the state. But if you want to take it up a notch, get involved in off-road biking, touring, or even racing.

Cat

Cats make great pets, but they can be difficult to care for. Learn how to keep your cat safe, healthy, and active. Maybe your skills in cat care will lead to a career in a veterinary practice!

Child & Family Development

Babysitters are often role models for younger children. Learn how to be more self-reliant and responsible, how to handle emergencies, and how to develop home-alone skills. Then you could use your babysitting skills in your neighborhood to make some extra cash!

Citizenship

Everyday situations give us the chance to be active citizens. Learn how to solve problems in your community and how to take action in a positive way. This project gives you the opportunity to be the change you wish to see in the world.

Clothing & Textiles

Have you ever wandered through the mall and dreamed about designing your own outfits? Learn the basics of the sewing machine, create a core wardrobe, and practice fashion illustration and computer

Cloverbuds (Grades K-3)

The Cloverbud Program appeals to a child’s natural curiositsy, enthusiasm for learning, and high energy level. It is an opportunity for exploration and active learning in a noncompetitive environment. Throughout a wide variety of activities and experiences, children are encouraged to explore and think about the world around them.

Make a Difference

Clowning

Did you know there are really only three kinds of clown characters? Find out what they are and why the possibilities within those three are endless. As you develop your own personal clown style, you’ll put together a clown kit of props, wigs, makeup, and scripts. Then it’s show time!

Computers

We use computers on a daily basis. Increase your competence in the digital community with this project. Focus on hardware (learn how to build a computer from scratch, upgrade an old computer, or troubleshoot), software, and the Internet. What you learn through this project can help you stand out in the huge field of computers and technology!

Consumer Education

Get more bang for your buck!Find out how to use your money to get the things you want through the Consumer Education project. Improve your money management skills and become a more informed consumer.

Crafts & Fine Arts

Develop lifelong skills by focusing on the principles of crafts and fine arts. Follow instructions, develop technique, and let your imagination run wild! This project will help you to express yourself creatively while you strengthen your abilities.

Crop Sciences

From planting to harvesting, this project explores all aspects of crop sciences. Learn about seedbed preparation, plant selection, soil needs, disease/pest control, grain storage, and marketing. You can also explore career opportunities in the crop science field.

Dairy

Ever wonder where your morning glass of milk comes from? This project will introduce you into various aspects of the dairy industry. Learn about manufacturing and marketing dairy products, discover the latest in scientific dairy research, and see how the dairy industry affects agribusiness. You may lease or own a dairy animal (prior to first freshening). May 15 is the deadline to identify show animals.

Dog

Help make your dog a perfect member of the family. Learn skills for dog care and training. Raise your puppy to be a leader dog or companion for people with disabilities. For this project, dogs may be owned or leased.

Electric

We depend on electricity every single day. From keeping our alarm clocks running to blasting music through our radios, electricity is essential to our lives. This project lets you experience technology first hand. Learn about electrical terms, simple circuits, and electricity measurements. Discover the relationship between electricity and magnetism.

Entomology

They bite us, they torment us, they scare us, they bug us but we can’t live without them. Insects are beautiful, beneficial, and have fascinating lifestyles. Learn about insects and study their complex world. Make a collection net, killing jar, pinning block, spreading board, and display case. Learn about experiments, research, and careers.

Exploring Animals

If you love animals, this project is for you. Even if you don’t have any animals right now, you will learn skills that will prepare you for the day that you do. Pursue your special interest in beef, horses, poultry, rabbits, sheep, swine, dairy goats, dairy animals, lamas or pets.

Exploring The Environment

Fascinated by the connections among living things? Through this project, learn about the four elements of life and how plants and animals affect each other. Take trips or hikes to a forest, field, or stream; make collections; and learn about plants, trees, insects, animals, and birds.

Fishing Sports

Living in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” fishing is a recognized pastime! Learn how to identify different fish and where they live, how to tie lines, and how to use fishing equipment. Then take a trip to the lake and catch, clean, and cook what you’ve caught!

Flower Gardening

Like to work outdoors and get your hands dirty? Learn how to start flowers from seeds or learn how to pick out plants (annuals, biennials, and perennials). Get tips for keeping flowers fresh and making awesome arrangements. If you’re really serious, you can turn a flower project into a science exhibit. You may be the next Master Gardner!

Food & Nutrition

Everyone eats, but not everyone eats well. Learn how to pick healthy foods and prepare nutritious meals. Find information on food safety, food preservation, and discover careers related to food and nutrition.

Forest Resources

Do you know how trees benefit your health? Find out through this project. Learn about the layers of a forest, how to identify different trees, and how forests change. Discover forest resources near you and explore their inner-workings.

Fruit

This project offers a challenge to fruit lovers. Learn how to grow, store, and market fruit. And by fruit we mean twenty-five or more strawberry or raspberry plants or three or more grapevines, fruit trees, currant bushes, or gooseberry bushes. Ready for the challenge?

Geology

Curious about what the Earth is made of? In this project you will learn about the rocks, minerals, and water that make up our planet. Make rock plates and collections of rocks, minerals, and fossils. Build a rock tumbler, make your own jewelry, and learn about your birthstone.

Geospatial

Where in the world are you? Learn about navigational tools (GIS and GPS), orient yourself with different map types, and explore a growing technology. This project will teach you to navigate more efficiently and increase your geospatial knowledge.

Global Connections

Join other kids to talk about world issues and global situations either in small groups or through selfdirected study. Think about how you can make a difference in your community, your state, your country, or your world.

Goat

If you are curious about goats, this project will give you a hands-on introduction. Learn about goat care and health while exploring the vast array of products that come from goats. You may lease (prior to first freshening) or own a dairy goat. May 15 is the deadline to identify show animals.

Health

How you treat your body now will influence your health in the future. Learn about the effects of tobacco and alcohol, study nutrition and fitness, and practice healthy choices. Create your own personal fitness plan and learn how to make being healthy fun!

Home Environment

Ever wonder what goes into owning and maintaining a home? This project will help you answer that question and other home questions. Learn about various aspects of the home environment from interior design to organizing to buying your own home.

Horse

Giddy up! If you’re a horse lover, jump in the saddle and run wild with this project. Learn about show, trail, or endurance riding; test your horse sense at quiz bowls or judging teams; or study horse science. The Horse Training project is designed to help the advanced rider train an untrained horse through a five-step process. You may have more than one horse in this project. Your horse may be leased or owned.

Indoor Gardening

You don’t have to wait for spring to let your garden grow. Learn about plants that grow indoors with this project. Make flowers bloom in the winter, grow plants in a bed of rocks the possibilities are endless!

Lawn & Landscape Design

Maybe you mow lawns in the summer, maybe you want to be a landscape architect. Whatever your experience level, learn everything you need to know about lawns, shrubs, and trees. This project will also teach you how to design and create a landscape plan.

Lama

Just because you don’t live in the Andean highlands of Peru, doesn’t mean you can’t experience lama’s. In this new 4-H project you will learn skills like caring, gentleness with animals and communicating with others as you learn to feed, halter train, performance train and groom and show a lama. You may grow to manage a breeding program, deal with birthing and weaning and make sales decisions. With or without an animal it’s lamarrific!

Needle Arts

Stand out in the crowd with your own unique sweaters, scarves, or blankets. This project will teach you the basics of knitting, crocheting, and needlework so you can start creating your own designs. Once you master the basics, host a knitting party or join a knitting club.

Performing Arts

Want to improve on your acting or other parts of performing arts? This is the chance to let your imagination run wild! Develop and present stories through acting, mime, movement, puppetry, and technical theater. Discover all that goes into make believe from makeup to costumes to lighting. And if you’re musically inclined, you can sing or play an instrument.

Pets

From birds to snakes, frogs to guinea pigs, learn how to take care of small pets.

Photography

Flip through your photo album how many pictures are blurring or plagued with red-eye? In this project, learn how to plan, take, and exhibit excellent shots. Experiment with digital equipment, special effects, film processing, print enlarging, and computer enhancement.

Plant & Soil Science

Science meets nature as you learn everything from parts of a flower to cross fertilization to soil conditions. You can get your hands dirty with this experience!

Potatoes

Who doesn’t love potatoes? Whether fried, mashed, or boiled they’re good! Learn how to grow, harvest, and store potatoes and then make some awesome potato recipes. Yum!

Poultry

Youth with an interest in poultry learn how to raise turkeys, chickens, ducks, or geese through this project. Or raise show and hobby species like guinea hens, pigeons, pheasants, and quail. Then display all that you’ve learned when you exhibit this year’s hatch.

Quilting

Quilts have a strong heritage in this country. Learning how to express your ethnicity, aesthetics, and values through quilting is a fun adventure. After mastering the basics, study the collecting, conservation, and exhibition of quilts.

Rabbits

Find out “what’s hoppening” in the world of rabbits. Learn about breed selection, rabbit health, and show preparation. Explore rabbit management and marketing maybe there’s a future career waiting to be discovered!

Robotics

Robotics are the way of the future, so get ahead of the game with this project. Learn how science, math, engineering, and technology combine to create robotics. Experiment with programming concepts and techniques to build your own robot.

Safety

Keep yourself safe and help others stay safe too. You can teach about safety with water, fire, electricity, and recreational vehicles (ATVs, snowmobiles, jet skis, boats, etc.); identifying farm hazards and making them less dangerous; making first aid kits and winter survival kits. Do you have it in you?

Self-Determined

If you’re tired of following someone else’s idea of a good learning experience, then create your own! Be your own researcher, scientist, artist, communicator, and evaluator. Ask your local 4-H leader or Extension staff for resources to help create your own project area.

Sheep

Raising and showing sheep can bring “shear delight” to the participant. In this project you can raise or show purebred or crossbred yearling ewes, aged ewes, or market lambs. Ewe lambs and market lambs must be born on or after January 1 and be identified by May 15. You may lease or own a sheep.

Shooting Sports/Wildlife Management

Want to be a better shot, a safer hunter, and an ethical sportsperson? This hands-on project teaches you the correct way to use air pistols, air rifles, .22 cal. rifles, shotguns, archery, and black-powder guns. Also, learn about wildlife and the environment in habitat projects.

Shop (Wood and/or Metal)

What do you see when you look at a piece of wood or metal? If you see a project, then this is the area for you. Learn everything from measuring to using routers and jointers. You can saw boards, drill holes, drive and pull nails, sand wood, and use glue and finishes. Then show off what you’ve made!

Small Engines

Lawn mowers, go carts, ATV’s where do they get their power? This project teaches you about two and fourcycle engines and how too maintain the machines with these engines. You will disassemble a carburetor and air cleaner, identify parts, and service or adjust them; you will also check and adjust ignition, and clean and regap spark plugs.

Swine

Find out where that “pork chop on a stick” you enjoy at the State Fair really comes from! In this project you can focus on market hogs, breeding hogs, or both. You may raise or show one or more purebred or crossbred gilts, barrows, or litters. Gilts must be born on or after January 1. All animals must be identified by May 15.

Tractor

There are many types of tractors, and this project lets you explore them all. Study field, antique, modified, lawn, or garden tractors. Learn about safe handling, maintenance, restoring, operation, and history of tractors and their related machinery.

Vegetable Gardening

How does your garden grow? Great when you know what you’re doing. In this project you’ll plan it, dig it, grow it, and show it. Who knows, you may want to make it a career!

Veterinary Science

Love your pets and want to keep them healthy? This project teaches you everything you need to know about animals, including animal health and disease prevention. You don’t need to own an animal and any animal will work cats, dogs, guinea pigs, mice, or birds. Enhance your knowledge of animals and maybe find your calling as a future veterinarian!

Video

Lights, camera, action! Use this project to tell your story. Learn the basics of equipment, composition, and shooting; then move on to advanced camera techniques, lighting, and editing. Develop a multi-camera production team and get rolling.

Water/Wetlands

In Minnesota we have 15,000 lakes to protect not to mention thousands of acres of wetlands, and hundreds of miles of rivers. Join the water team by learning about ecosystems, water quality, pollution, and how you can help with our water resources.

Wildlife Biology

Do you know what the D.A.M. law is? Find this out and much more about wildlife populations through this project. Learn about the needs of wildlife and how you can help to improve their habitats.

Youth Leadership

Build relationships, develop communication techniques, and strengthen organizational skills.This project helps you to find the leader within and encourages you to make a positive impact in your community.
