Stretching Your Food Dollars

20 Possibilities

  1. Use coupons - especially store coupons and double coupons.
  2. Wait until things go on sale.
  3. Stockpile when prices are low.
  4. Stick to a shopping list.
  5. Shop around - compare prices at different stores.
  6. Buy generic or cheaper brands.
  7. Buy in bulk.
  8. Buy cheaper options in a food group, such as peanut butter instead of meat.
  9. Stretch meals with beans and rice.
  10. Use less expensive treats, such as cereal instead of candy.
  11. Go places where meals are free, such as a community center or a friend’s house.
  12. Use the food shelf.
  13. Eat before you shop.
  14. Leave the kids at a friend’s when you grocery shop.
  15. Avoid expensive prepared food.
  16. Plan ahead to spread out the cost of birthdays or holidays.
  17. Shop the farmers’ market.
  18. Use food provided by Women, Infants and Children (WIC) or Mothers and Children (MAC).
  19. See if you are eligible for food stamps for the Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS).
  20. Call 1-800-582-4291 to find the nearest FARE for ALL site.
