Black Walnut Management


If the site has not yet been harvested, first, spray small understory trees and shrubs with a herbicide in late summer. Second, harvest merchantable trees during the winter. Third, cut down or girdle all nonmerchantable trees and spray herbicide on their stumps or girdles to prevent resprouting. And fourth, plant walnuts in the spring.
