Oaks are more difficult to regenerate on sites that are moist, but well-drained and have good fertility. Many tree species grow well on these sites and provide too much competition for oak seedlings to survive. When such stands are harvested, some oaks may reproduce from stump sprouts, but there will be few oak seedlings.
