To give oak seedlings adequate sunlight, group selection, clearcutting or shelterwood harvests are recommended. These harvesting systems will regenerate a mixture of tree species with oaks as an important component. In a large managed forest, only about 1 to 2 percent of the woodland is regenerated each year.
